About Us

Since 1976, Noble Mountain has been one of the world’s largest wholesale Christmas tree suppliers.

Since 1976

Since 1976, Noble Mountain has been one of the world’s largest wholesale Christmas tree suppliers of Plantation Noble Fir, Douglas Fir, Scotch Pine and Grand Fir. Noble Mountain has adapted to market changes and customer demand to currently focus operations on growing high quality Noble Fir, Douglas Fir and now Nordmann Fir.

Our four farms total over 4,000 acres and are strategically located both within and on the edge of Oregon’s famed and fertile Willamette Valley.  Here, where winters are crisp and moist, and summers are sunny and mild, Noble, Nordmann and Douglas Fir trees flourish. Nurtured by experienced hands, they are brought to perfection in late fall and helicopter-harvested mere hours before shipment to meet the robust demand for natural trees at Christmas.

Our highly skilled staff and sales and logistics team can help meet customer needs whether it’s a single mixed species load of 250 trees or an over 100,000 tree order of mixed species with multiple drops. Our years of sales data has helped us develop some of the industry’s best sell through percentages for our customers.

Our History

Noble Mountain traces its roots back to the end of the 1960’s when a large timberland owner decided to enter the Christmas tree arena. Through almost 50 years of operations, Noble Mountain has consistently provided customers with high quality Christmas trees along with exceptional customer service. Today, Noble Mountain continues that tradition with a renewed focus on sustainability and innovation as we link our past with our future.

In the hills near Salem, OR, Crown Zellerbach Company began growing Noble Fir Christmas Trees on over 1,000 acres in the late 1960’s. Up to that point, the industry was primarily made up of family businesses and small landowners growing trees on dozens of small tree farms.

Crown Zellerbach was the first large corporation to enter the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree market. As a result of early mass plantings, Crown had an enormous number of trees that became marketable at once. Crown Zellerbach excelled in tree growing but had not developed a marketing plan to sell its significant number of trees in a market driven by small farms at that time, and the decision was made to sell the farm.

In 1976, Bob Stohr led a group of investors to negotiate the purchase of the Crown Zellerbach farm, officially launching Noble Mountain Tree Farm (“Noble Mountain”). Over the years, Noble Mountain has grown to its current configuration of four farms totaling just over 4,000 acres. Today, three original Noble Mountain employees remain: Gary Elder, Farm Manager, Greg Johnson, shop foreman and Bob Schaefer, General Manager. These three men along with numerous full-time staff work tirelessly to produce high quality Christmas trees for families to enjoy each year.

In 2020, the BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (“TIG”) acquired Noble Mountain on behalf of its investors in a first of its kind open-ended Core U.S. Timberland Strategy. The Strategy is focused on acquiring high quality assets which are broadly diversified across core U.S. timberland geographies to own and manage in perpetuity. Noble Mountain was a strategic acquisition for TIG, providing a significant and scalable entry into the live Christmas tree market in a desired region, the Pacific Northwest, providing additional diversification from traditional timberland assets.

Since acquisition, TIG and Noble Mountain have continued to focus on providing exceptional customer service and quality Christmas trees while advancing technology and analytical tools to improve and streamline operations. The perpetual nature of TIG’s strategy in the U.S. is well aligned with the long-term stability Noble Mountain and its customers are accustomed to. TIG and Noble Mountain are excited to continue to serve our customers despite changing markets and economic cycles knowing the collaboration of the organizations positions Noble Mountain to strive for future success.
